"Culture reshapes his most basic sense of manhood by telling him that masculinity is something to drape over the body, not drawn from inner resources; that is personal, not societal; that manhood is displayed, not demonstrated."

Susan Faludi,

The Men’s Project is an undertaking which promotes the creativity of the human spirit and the process of healing by exploring the expectations and experiences of being male in today’s culture. The project currently sponsors a number of workshops regarding men, love, body image, and intimacy.

The Men’s Project is always in search of creative ideas and energy to promote its purpose of representing issues regarding men in current culture. If you would like to be involved, please contact Dr. Randy Beggs at (404) 478-4167 ext. 2.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall... Changing Views of the Male Body
Sponsored by The Men’s Project, "Mirror, Mirror on the Wall" explores the roots of male body obsession, masculinity, men and eating disorders, the quest for muscularity and the concerns of men beyond muscle and fat. Mirror, Mirror produces both a workshop and a frequent art showing at the Hungry Souls art exhibition.
The educational workshop offers men the opportunity to begin to examine their feelings about eating, food, and weight, the messages carried in their bodies, the experience of manhood and their relationship to self, truth, soul, and body.

The art exhibition is an installation about men, body image, and the objectification of the male body through cultural and social shaping. The exhibit forms a connectedness of creative process and the human spirit as a way of giving voice to the struggles, joys, and fears of living in a male body in today’s society.
